Ellesmere Guest House
'Your home away from home'
|

|
Glengyle
Terrace was built in 1869 by William and Duncan McGregor who
also built a Mansion House in Bruntsfield Place called 'Gleneagle
Lodge' which is no longer in existence. Both names - Glengyle
and gleneagle originated from territories associated with the
Clan McGregor. |
| |
Ellesmere
House overlooks Bruntsfield links, once an 18 hole Golf Course,
reputed to be the oldest Golf Course in the world. The game
of Golf started in Scotland and Bruntsfield Links claims to
be oldest Golf Links in Scotland, St Andrew's being the oldest
Golf Club where they put rules to the game. |

Near our
Guest House, also on the Links, is the Golf
Tavern dating back to 1456, and has been used as
the '19th hole' to many a golfer. Throughout the years a number
of Clubs have established the 'Links' as their Club Course,
these include:-
The Royal Burgess Golfing Society - 1735 and
The Honourable Company of Edinburgh Golfers - 1844. |
